Shot 6 Layout

I'd still like to clean this up a bit and touch up the color, but here it is.

Update

I now have an animation desk and I'm waiting for my down-shooter to arrive in the mail so I can test my animations. In the meantime, I'll be working on the color for the background layouts.

So Here's the Deal

In order to complete my film without sacrificing quality, I'm going to continue working on it over the summer. I'm happy with what I have so far, but I don't want to rush it. I will continue to post updates as I make progress.

Shot 12 Background Update

This background is almost finished now. I only need to clean it up a little more.

Base Colors for Shot 12 Background

I've separated the necessary parts out into layers to make the compositing easier. The initial pencil work had to be done in three separate layers to make this work. So far I'm pretty pleased.

Sweet Progress 2

The tie-downs for shot 15. All I have left to do on this one is when the root enters the shot.

I had to animate the hand and the root on separate layers and it was difficult to match them up just right, but hey, it works.

Buckle Up Ladies and Gentlemen, It's Gonna Be a Long Haul.

Strapping in to get this done.

My goal is to rough out at least three shots per day, if not more. Right now I'm working on one of my most difficult hurdles, a 5 second shot of Death running in perspective, jumping onto a rock, then leaping to the Mother Tree. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it.

Opening Issues Resolved

I don't think I've mentioned this here, but I had a fully finished After Effects opening for my film at the end of last semester. But thanks to a hard drive crash I lost it in early January. I've been freaking out all semester trying to figure out how to replace it without redoing the sequence animation. I just don't have time. SO, I've done some recording of intro and end audio and I can use the still image that I originally animated to illustrate what is being said. I am pleased.

Color Still Image...

This isn't even the drawing that goes with this shot. I just wanted to nail down how the environment affects her colors.

Shot 10: Background Nearly Done

Almost done :) It gives me a color key for the rest of the backgrounds.

Shot 2 Roughs Almost Done

I know it's a short shot but it's one of the hardest shots in my film to figure out technically. One more frame should do it.

Working...

I've been working on roughs today and I'm almost done with shot 5. Moving on to shot 6, the only sequential shot work session I've had so far. I usually tend to jump around a lot.

Working on Colors

Taking a break from animation to nail down my colors for the film. I'm figuring out how I want the background to be lit and shaded. I think I'm going to take a Disney approach to color by using the spectrum.

Almost forgot to post this...

This a maquette I made of Life using Super Sculpey. The fur detail alone took 28 hours. It was my first maquette and I'm pretty proud of it. I still intend to paint it, but for now, this is it. It's a big help to me when I need to draw him from different angles.

Just a Progress Report

I've gotten a few more layouts done and I'm currently working on the animation for the end sequence with the seedling growing next to Eithne's doll. I'm going to be hauling ass this week trying to get back on schedule, so wish me luck.

Well, Music Happened

I'm going a little off schedule, but I had a musical epiphany and I've been working on that. I still hope to have the layouts at least sketched by Wednesday.

Just a Quick Update

I'm working diligently on layouts today. I hope to get through eight or so before taking a break. My goal is to have my layouts done by Wednesday for scanning, so wish me luck.

Quick Test

This is a quick test for Eithne entering the hut where life is being kept. I just wanted to get a good feel for how her fingers would move.

A layout

This is the layout for the shot where Eithne enters the hut. Of course it will be digitally painted, but it gets the idea across for now so I can begin animation.
